RUSD Expands Elementary Music Education to ALL Students in Grades 1-6

RUSD EXPANDS ELEMENTARY MUSIC EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS GRADES 1-6

AUGUST 15, 2016: The Rowland Unified School District is excited to announce that it will expand its elementary music program for the 2016/17 school year. Bryant Aquino, District Music Specialist, presented details about the expansion program to the Board of Education on August 9, 2016.

ALL RUSD students in grades 1 through 6 will experience a dedicated 50 minute music education class each week during their regular schedule. “We are thrilled that every student in grades 1st - 3rd will experience General Music Curriculum. For students in grades 4th, 5th and 6th, they have the opportunity to select their music class,” said Aquino. “All students in 4th grade will have the choice to select General Music or learn how to play a String instrument. Students in 5th and 6th grades will be able to select participation in either a General Music, Strings or Band class.”

During the first week of school, students will learn more about the expansion program with general assemblies. An information flier and music class selection form for students in grades 4th – 6th grade will be sent home.

*MUSIC CHOICE FORMS DUE MONDAY, AUGUST 22

Parents of 4th – 6th Grade Students: Please look for a flier where your students will make their music class selection. The form will need to be returned to your child's teacher by Monday, Aug. 22! (See attachments below)

*PARENT/STUDENT INFORMATION NIGHT FOR INTERESTED BAND/STRING STUDENTS AUGUST 24, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Rowland High School Gym(RHS is located at 2000 S. Otterbein Ave., Rowland Heights). This is an important meeting to answer your questions and as a service, several music stores will bring instruments for display and rental so your student can choose the instrument most suitable for them.
