2020-2021 Principal's Message

Dear Telesis Families,

It is a sincere honor and privilege to welcome you to our academy.  The 2019-2020 school year proved to be quite challenging with COVID-19 halting schooling as we have known it.  Moving into the 2020-2021 school year, there is much uncertainty.  Regardless if we are educating students remotely, in a hybrid model, or on campus, we are very excited about beginning our ninth year as a No Excuses University Preparatory Academy.  NEU coupled with our focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) will prepare our children for college and career readiness. We continue our professional relationship with the California Science Center. This partnership, in its fifth year, supports the staff in designing inquiry based science and engineering lessons around the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and are integrated throughout the curriculum.

Our students continue to compete in the Southern California Science Olympiad, Greater Los Angeles Botball Tournament, Inland Valley Debate League Tournament, and Math Counts Competitions.  Our elementary Science Olympiad division received a gold medal, and our middle school division placed in several events.  Because of COVID-19 we were unable to participate in the Southern California Botball Tournament, however in the year previous, our “Botball” robotics team placed fourth and were awarded the coveted “Judges Choice” award.  We look forward to continuing to program Vex robots, design using 3D printers, Laser Cutters, and code beginning in kinder and first grade.  Lastly, the Telesis Debate team placed in several of their debate tournaments.

I am so proud of the work that is taking place at Telesis.  The hard work of the staff, the students, parents, and the support of our community has earned us the title of a Top Los Angeles County Public School for Underserved Students.  In addition we are a California Gold Ribbon School, a Title I Academic Achievement School, and a California Honor Roll School.  Our entire staff is committed to providing an outstanding educational environment that addresses the needs of every child.  We also believe that students who learn and develop outstanding character traits will go further and achieve more in life.

Telesis is home to many wonderful families who make education a priority and support our school in so many ways.  It is our hope and desire that you will also connect with our community and make it your own.

We will keep our families and community up to date about what our 2020-2021 school year will entail.  Please continue to use our school website as a hub for announcements and up to date information on next school year.  I thank you for choosing Telesis as your place of learning and we all look forward to an awesome 2020-2021 school year!

Sincerely,

Johan Schmitz
